Trach Care & Change Video

Just a quick warning: The following video is a bit graphic, so I don't suggest you watching it if you're squeamish or have children around.

We taped Mackenzie's trach care and change tonight. She cooperated quite well until the end when she preferred to lay back and watch the Backyardigans instead of sitting up so I could finish strapping down her ties. Silly girl. :o) Typically we have to go a bit faster because she's not as relaxed and quiet, but when she IS behaving we like to be thorough and get all the yuckies.

Thanks for sharing this with us. I always wondered how it was done. Mac is so calm. The last part reminded me of Audrey.
Mac is sooo cute. She is even cuter on video than she is in her pictures and that is big stuff.

Thank you for sharing that Niff. I also always wondered how that was done. I can't get over how big Mac is getting. I can't wait to visit next weekend! :)

Thanks for sharing! How many times per day do you change her trach?

Meg - We only change her trach once a week unless she's having issues with her oxygen saturations and we think there might be a plug. When we first brought her home, she was having issues plugging her tube so we were doing routine trach changes twice a week. Trach care, on the other hand, we do at least once a day. That just invovles cleaning around her stoma, neck, replacing ties and replacing the drain sponge.
