Packing List

I started working on the packing list for Mackenzie's things. We extended the Biltmore trip an extra day so we'll be leaving the house on Friday (the 11th) at 11am and staying through Monday (the 14th) at 11am. Andy arrives home from CA at midnight on the 10th (technically the 11th), and he's going to wash all his clothes ahead of time so his things will already be packed. That leaves just my things and Mackenzie's.

Anywho, here's the list so far of Mac's stuff. For trach parents who read this, please feel free to remind me what I'm forgetting. :o) Well, that goes for all parents really. Oh, the pulse ox supplies are already in the Go Bag (2 extra probes, tapes, and posseys) so you won't see those on the list.

I'm going to have my day nurse take a look at the list and see if she can think of anything that's missing. We're only going to take one O2 tank with us, since we're having our DME company deliver an oxygen concentrator and 2 extra tanks to the hotel when we arrive. They might even be able to deliver mist compressor which would be super great. I'll also have the Go Bag stocked with emergency supplies (including trahcs).

All I have to say is thank goodness we have a mini-van. I'm not sure if we can fit everything in the van with the 3rd row seating in. If we have to take the 3rd row out (darn not having stow-n-go seating!) then I'll take the stationary vent & stand. We're trying to avoid that because that 3rd seat is heavy!

Woohoo!!! I really cannot wait to go. **cue happy dance**

My random list of things:

Where will she sleep?

Do you have some baby meds like Tylenol or teething tablets in her diaper bag?

I didn't notice Trach masks on the list - do you use those?

Oh and CHARGERS!!! Don't forget the chargers for the suction & feeding pumps!

I also need blunt scissors to cut the Trach ties - but I know not everyone does that.

That's all of the top of my head.

Janis - Great thought about the tylenol! I'll add that to the list. :o)

She'll sleep in her pack-n-play which wasn't on the list but assumed by me. I have trach masks on my list but I guess I forgot to type it. I also pack all the charges in the equipment bags when I pack stuff away so that was a given too. :o)

We keep blunt scissors, twill tape, paper tape, and other supplies in the go bag so those are already taken care of.

Great thinking, Janis!!

When we travel we always bring some type of small bags to dispose of poopy diapers, since sometimes you dont' have a garbage can handy on the road. A newspaper bag works really well. Target actually sells little rolls of bags specifically for diapers.

I also use them for stinky clothes when they have a diaper explosion. lol.

Have a fabulous trip!

wow. that is A LOT of stuff! 40 nappies????!

this is probably a really dumb question, but what about food?? (baby jars?)

soother?

i ALWAYS take teething gel but that's maybe not relevant.

i always take milton wipes too (you know, disinfectant wipes). handy for cleaning all sorts of stuff.

a hat and shades...? you never know.

LOL Clare. Mac goes through at least 10 nappies a day, so 40 may be a bit of a pinch... but I keep a pack in the van for emergencies so we can break those out if need be.

Great thought at bringing the baby food! I hadn't thought of it since we only do it once a day. :o) But I suppose that will help draw some of the attention away while Andy and I are eating lunch on the grounds. People may think I'm starving the poor girl. ;o)

She won't take soothers, unfortunately... but she LOVES her chewy tube so it acts the same. As does her cellphone.

I've never heard of Milton wipes? Must be a UK thing. But that's what the Clorox wipes are for. And I think I'll bring a spray bottle of Control III cleaning solution to spray the room down with once we arrive.

A hat! I hadn't thought of it. She's never really worn a hat before, but then again she hasn't been outside too much. Our day nurse and I are going to the mall on Tuesday (taking Mac with, obviously) so I'll check some out while I'm there.

Sorry if I am repeating anything anyone else has said, I didn't read the other comments...

Don't forget the chargers to suction and vent. Back up batteries to vent. Feeding pump (and pole if you can). Travel bag for feeding pump. I also recommend bringing the "home" vent as well as the portable with the humidifier. We always take both vents whenever we travel more then 30 minutes away from home (not always the stand or humidifier, just extra circuits for the portable to use if need be)...you never know what could happen to your portable vent. Do you have a car charger for your vent??? Hopefully so, if so make sure that is in the car!!!

It always feels like we are packing for a two week vacation whenever we go anywhere farther from home, even if it's just an over night trip and then I am paranoid for the longest time thinking I might have forgotten something.

Oh which reminds me...what about an extra mickey button (or mini-one, not sure how that would work if you needed to change it) and do you have a bag (just in case)...I think it is called an ambu bag (I probably spelt that wrong). Also thought about the key to open the O2 tanks...ok I think that is all I can think of. Sorry, you probably have all of that covered. I am definitely a list maker and will go over and over in my head what I know I need and the "what if" I need all of the time. Have fun and have a safe trip. Can't wait to see pictures. I am sure Mackenzie will have a blast!!!

saywhatyouwill said...

i didn't mention an ambu bag since we take that with us whenever we leave the house. ditto a manual suction foot pump. and also little nappy bags - handy for getting rid of used catheters eg when you are travelling in the car.

yeah milton wipes must be the british equivalent!

have you got spare trachs on there? yeah i guess you do.

i am very bad at packing because i always want to take EVERYTHING and am not good a thinning things down. so now i try on purpose to only take the minimum of what i need, because i know that my "minimum" still = a tonne of stuff.

We keep our Go Bag fully stocked and it has all our trach/mini one/emergency supplies, including an ambu bag. Spare trachs, spare MicKey, tons of suction caths, saline bullets, vent circuits, you name it we have it in the Go Bag. That's where we keep all our partable chargers too (like the car chargers). We also keep another ambu bag in the van. And then there's the one that permanently stays at the foot of Mac's crib. :o)

lol...the long packing list ALMOST make it not worth vacationing...lol

Aren't you glad you got a minivan afterall?? We love our stow and go---does make it much easier to fold down the back roll and pack up. Having 3 kids though we have to take 2 vehicles and an extra adult for out of town trips though. ;(

you are super organised.

we have 2 "go" bags: the suction machine bag and another "blue bag". we keep catheters, hand gel, saline bullets, filter bibs, spare trach tube, scissors, emergency trach box (with velcro ties, scissors, and sleek), cotton ties, nappy bags, dummies, bonjela, paracetamol and syringes, tape for the apnoea machine, smaller caths, ambu bag, foot pump, nappies, wetwipes, suncream and shades, changing pads, and very importantly: crisps and a drink!
