Playing Sleep Catch Up

I swear I've meant to update sooner, but I'm still trying to catch up on my sleep.

Sunday night we had a fill-in nurse, as our usual night nurse works Monday thru Saturday. I won't go into too much detail (aside from mentioning this "nurse" didn't know what the term "desat" meant), but some stuff happened and I fired the nurse on the spot. I told her to call her husband to come get her and she could wait in the living room. It was the first time I had ever done that, and I was furious I was shaking. Mackenzie was sick (triple tracheitis going on - happens every month), so I stayed up with her after having gone the day without a nurse as well. I ended up staying up 27hrs straight without a wink of sleep, and then only got about 4 and 1/2 hrs. My body is still trying to catch back up.

The good news is Mackenzie's feeling much better. She was on an inhaled antibiotic called Tobramycin. It's notorious for drying out the lungs and of course it did. Sunday night I was doing Xoponex nebs every 4hrs with saline nebs in between. We've been able to cut back to the occasional nebs, mostly at night.

More good news... Mackenzie's doing fantastic with her oral feeding. Yesterday she took her entire 6pm feeding by mouth. Afterward she looked stuffed and urpy, but the fact that she tried was awesome. She's also being more open to baby food. She doesn't quite open wide for the spoon every time. Infact, she seems to have gotten into a habit of sucking the food off the tip of the spoon. Interesting. :o) So far the 3 flavors that have gotten a thumbs up from Mackenzie are: (1) Peach, Oatmeal & Banana, (2) Vegetable Turkey Dinner, and (3)Summer Vegetable Dinner. The jury is still out on Bananas, Peaches & Raspberries.

Next week is another busy week with appointments for GI, cardiologist, and optometrist on three separate days. At least 2 are in town. :o)

We've decided for Mackenzie's first birthday we're taking a 3 day trip to Asheville and visiting the Biltmore. I found a pretty good deal online with a swanky hotel in the area, and I've heard great things about it. I just need to call and get the kinks worked out and locate the nearest hospital. It's going to take quite a bit of planning and but I think it's definitely going to be worth it. We're not entirely sure if we're going to venture taking her to a restaurant for her birthday dinner (I like the idea of having the waiters sing to her - hehe) or if we'll just celebrate in the hotel room. We'll get it figured out. :o)

Alright. I'm off to get some sleep. I'll try to update more often.

Niff sorry to hear you are having such a hard time with your home nurses. It must be so frustrating for you. I am shocked they sent a nurse who did not know what a destat is. AArg, I willl say a prayer that you get some well needed rest and some nurses who know what they are doing.

Also great to hear about mac taking feeds. I doknow how great it feeels when they take there feeds since we are struggling with this issue.

Enjoy her first birthday, I can't believe she will be 1 next month. It seems like yesturday she had just arrived. Do whatever and follow your heart to what do, She might enjoy going out, go on off hours so there is less people and just enjoy ,

I'm sorry she was sick, but glad she's feeling better. I can't believe her first birthday is coming up. She's adorable.

Becky - The agency didn't know. The lady portrayed herself as being knowledgable. They're handling the situation right now and making her re-test and all that good stuff. I'm impressed with the way they handled it.
